Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.
Job Description
The Chief Metallurgist will be responsible for supporting site management in the implementation of safe operating practices, defining production technical limits, and guiding improvements, metal accounting and trouble-shooting problems within the process. The incumbent. will introduce and mentor operating personnel towards sound metallurgical practices and will pursue optimum efficiency and outcomes including any defined and approved research and development projects in support of improving process and maintenance efficiency.
Accountability
The Chief Metallurgist reports directly to the site Process Manager in all aspects of Process Plant operations, cost control, research, projects, analytical assaying and metallurgy.
Responsibilities and Duties
Demonstrate a personal commitment to working safely as an advocate and leader of a safe work culture for all employees
Work closely with operations, maintenance, ore control and other departments to ensure safe and environmentally compliant process operations
Consistently define and communicate process related technical limits to increase awareness and maintain a focus on resolving and eliminating production bottlenecks
Provide guidance and support for the coordination of on-site and off-site contracted assay lab and analytical services
Ensure that the flotation circuit on-stream analyzer and associated sampling system are properly maintained and calibrated
Support, promote and take a leadership role in a culture of participatory management and continuous improvement
Oversee projects through engineering, forecasting, funding and completion
Oversee daily, monthly and annual metallurgical production accounting and reporting
Provide leadership to support the metallurgical, operations and maintenance teams
Assume responsibility for planning, performing and directing metallurgical testing
Provide leadership in budgeting, forecasting and metal accounting functions
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or equivalent Process-related degree is required
Minimum of five (5) years' experience in a processing plant environment, copper flotation experience is strongly desired
Strong ability to research and analyze information and draw conclusions
Strong ability to resolve safety, operational and environmental action items
Ability to communicate with technical specialists and to interpret technical drawings and specification documents
Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead a team of people and/or work independently
Demonstrated ability to perform essential functions of the position is required
A passion for innovative concepts that can transform the business
Skills/Abilities
General knowledge of health & safety, mining, maintenance and accounting functions
Detailed knowledge of all phases of copper processing
Knowledge and experience developing policies and procedures for the organization
Advanced computer skills applying Microsoft Office
Able to work independently, as well as an effective member of the management team
Extensive cross functional budgeting expertise
Strong verbal, written, analytical and communication skills with an ability to interact at all levels within the company

Physical and Mental Demands and Requirements
Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license
Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms

Stay alert during periods of inactivity
Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment
The incumbent is expected to work a 40 hour/week schedule, primarily from Monday through Friday. Personal Protective Equipment required for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
