Golder has a new opportunity for a Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer to join our Reno, Nevada or Portland, Oregon office. The successful candidate will execute and provide senior oversight of geotechnical pit slope projects in rock and soils for mining projects locally, nationally, and internationally.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Provide leadership in all aspects of project work and business development
Provide consultation on open pit mining projects for North America and international clients
Design, implement and oversee engineering studies in open pit related projects
Provide advice to mining operations
Conduct due diligence reviews and independent report work
Offer innovative and specialized solutions to internal and external clients
Mentor and coach technical staff
Stay abreast of new research and developments within the industry
Work collaboratively with other senior members of the Golder Mining team to implement the business growth strategy, develop, and maintain relationships with a broad client base
In conjunction with the Divisional Leader, and support from the Marketing team, identify, coordinate, and undertake marketing and promotional activities for the specialist area region
Establish linkages with other business units to support and enhance service delivery
Display safety leadership
An undergraduate degree in mining, geotechnical or geological engineering, especially open pit and slope experience in rock and soils
Ability to travel to remote mine sites
A minimum of 15 years’ work experience with an emphasis on rock mass characterization, slope design, slope reinforcement, monitoring with a working knowledge of blasting and dewatering
Experience leading large complex projects for open pit and slopes that includes data collection, data processing, numerical modeling, design and monitoring
Experience as a consulting engineer
Demonstrated experience in authoring technical papers and presenting at technical and trade conferences
The ability to establish and maintain solid client relationships
Highly effective leadership capabilities and strong interpersonal skills
Knowledge of, and ability to use modeling software including RocScience (DIPS, SLIDE, RS2) and Itasca products (FLAC 2D/3D, UDEC)
Registration or eligibility for registration as Professional Engineer in the United States
Experience mentoring junior and intermediate level employees
A post-graduate degree in mining, geotechnical or geological engineering, especially open pit and slope experience in rock and soils
Professional Engineer license
