Our Enterprise Data Architect collaborates with EMPLOYERS executive team and leaders across the organization to understand data needs of the organization, define data architecture to enable those needs and lead the implementation of defined data architecture. Assumes leadership role on application data architecture, data reference models, requirements gathering and process analysis and troubleshooting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive business outcomes leveraging data to enable current and future organizational needs

  • Elicit data needs from across the organization, as well as external partners

  • Define overall enterprise data architecture and data reference models

  • Partner with the Chief Data & Analytics Officer to define enterprise data strategies

  • Develop and document application data standards, policies and guidelines for the organization

  • Participate in data governance process to ensure consistent data definitions, practices and standards

  • Partner with security architects to ensure compliance with data security and privacy mandates

  • Build and communicate a data architecture and delivery roadmap with current, transition and future state architectures that provides clear benefits to IT and business units

  • Assist application development in revising enterprise conceptual, logical, and physical data models

  • Ensure consistency between data management, enterprise storage and all other technical system components

  • Define scope, high-level requirements, high-level estimates and data architecture approach for identified initiatives

  • Partner with IT personnel to evaluate existing and emerging data technologies for their applicability to business challenges/objectives. Present business cases for evaluation and/or lead or implement prototypes or POC’s (proofs-of-concept) to validate expectations

  • Work closely with technical managers and project managers to support initiatives and projects as requested

  • Demonstrate leadership through strong collaboration and working relationships with others in IT and the business

  • Lead product and service evaluations to ensure they align with strategic goals and objectives

  • Collaborate with other architects, IT Leadership and other business unit leadership to provide recommendations for IT strategy based on the overall enterprise strategic goals as communicated by the Executive team

  • Present to employees at all levels with clear communication

  • Lead or participate in development of innovative/creative recommendations on how new and emerging technologies can best be applied across the enterprise

  • Lead or participate in architectural reviews on projects

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or Bachelor’s Degree in other area and experience in Information Technology

  • At least 10 years of information technology experience

  • At least 8 years of information technology experience related to data design and/or architecture

  • Prior experience in lead data architecture or engineering role

  • Demonstrated accomplishments with traditional data warehouse, ETL, or BI / information delivery

  • Experience with data lakes, data virtualization and/or other big-data architectural approaches

  • Strong analysis skills along with ability to develop creative solutions and options

  • Demonstrated accomplishments with leveraging data in online and/or mobile applications to optimize user experience

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
