Radiation Control Specialists determine compliance with State and federal regulation pertaining to radiation; inspect and investigate complaints involving radiation sources and radiation producing devices.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position is located with the Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Radiation Control Program in Carson City or Las Vegas , Nevada. The incumbent is specifically responsible to license, inspect and investigate ionizing radiation sources statewide to determine potential hazards to the public; implement radiation control regulations adopted by the Nevada State Board of Health pursuant to NRS 459 (radioactive materials/X-ray). In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for continued development of radiation producing machine program inspection procedures, program regulatory analysis and development and program staff training. * THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in radiological science, X-ray technology, health physics, nuclear medicine, chemistry, math, biology, or closely related field and one year of professional experience related to the position; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Health/Human Services Professional Trainee in Nevada State service.
Depending upon assignment, incumbents may be required to pass a radioactive materials training and/or X-ray inspection course.
Incumbents must comply with all applicable State and federal security and safeguard requirements.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and for continued employment.
Participation in a medical monitoring program is required for some positions.
Division duty officer rotation and call-back availability for public health incidents/emergencies are required for all positions.
