Job Role and Responsibilities

The High-Performance Storage Systems project is designing and building new storage systems that outperform today’s systems by an order of magnitude. The project works from theory to implementation: we prove theorems about storage data structures, and then we build and benchmark systems around those theorems. We are also exploring new hardware, both in terms of the theory it inspires and the implementation techniques it requires.

Internships with the High-Performance Storage Systems project could focus on new hardware (such as persistent memory), data structures and theory, concurrency, transactions and semantics, distributed systems, or other storage-related topics. The exact nature of the internship will depend on the intern’s interests and the needs of the project.

Required Skills

• You are pursuing a PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent field

• Candidates should have skills related to one or more of the following areas (note candidates are not expected to be experts in all of the topics below)

Storage systems

Data structures and algorithms

Persistent memory

External-memory data structures and algorithms

Concurrency

Distributed systems

Transactions

Preferred Skills:

• Prior systems research experience working with RDMA.
