Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. This position will have program focus to accelerate Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) Farm Bill Conservation Program participation and the delivery of conservation technical assistance that are of mutual conservation interest to both the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) and NRCS. This program is a cooperative undertaking between both NDOW and NRCS to provide financial and technical assistance in wildlife habitat improvement activities to landowners, residents, and organizations within the State of Nevada.
The combined resources of NDOW and NRCS will result in the enhancement, restoration, and protection of upland and wetland wildlife habitat along with forest and range resources in the state. This position will meet with private landowners to explain, promote, and prepare proposals for potential funding programs. Also the position will facilitate interagency assistance between NDOW and NRCS to utilize the local expertise of NDOW biologists who specialize in specific species and habitats, as appropriate to specific project proposals. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and one year of professional wildlife management experience such as conducting research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects; OR one year of experience as a Biologist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
Specialized experience may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
Experience presenting information to private landowners, public agencies, and the general public is required.
