Mission Support and Test Services, LLC Senior Engineer in Mercury, Nevada
- Bachelor’s degree from an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) field and 5 years' related and relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.
Applicants must have at least one year or relevant experience working with requirements or areas such as nuclear facility construction and maintenance or radiological facilities.
Skilled in working and communicating effectively with managers of other project functional groups, primarily Engineering, Construction, Project Management, and other services
Must be able to cope with conflicting deadlines, heavy workloads, and constant interruptions. Demonstrated leadership qualities with emphasis on continuous improvement and team building

Must possess an appropriate, valid driver’s license
Working knowledge of DOE O 420.1, DOE O 433.1, DOE O 422.1, DOE O 426.2, DOE STD 3009, Documented Safety Basis, and Technical Safety Requirements highly desirable
DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, and subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”
Eligibility Requirements – To obtain a clearance, an individual must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security.”
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
NUCLEAR WORKER STANDARDS
Per DOE O 426.2, these are Personnel responsible for supervision, design, evaluation, modification, testing, and performance of technical support functions for the operating organization. Examples of technical staff responsibilities include:
surveillance and testing related to normal facility operation and operation of safety-related systems;
analyzing routine operational/facility data;
planning modifications to facility safety systems;
providing technical assistance during normal, abnormal, and emergency facility conditions to offer technical problem resolution to operations in their area of expertise;
providing engineering/technical assistance in support functions to the facility such as radiological, quality assurance, and for initial design or modifications that impact nuclear safety.
Technical staff typically has expertise in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control, chemistry, radiation protection, safety, quality assurance/independent assessment, software quality assurance, facility engineering, system/process engineering, safety basis engineering, criticality safety, or nuclear safety.
Minimum entry-level requirements for non-reactor nuclear facilities include the following:
Baccalaureate in Engineering or Related Science
2-years of job-related experience or 1-year of Nuclear Experience

Performs duties as a Cognizant System Engineer (CSE) per DOE Order 420.1C in support of the Device Assembly Facility (DAF) located at the Department of Energy’s Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). Reports to the DAF Nuclear Engineering Manager.
- Applicants will play a lead technical role in design and implementation.
Responsible for maintaining overall cognizance of Mechanical and/or Electrical Systems, providing systems engineering support for operations and maintenance, and technical support of line management safety responsibilities for ensuring continued system operational readiness.
Validates physical configuration of assigned systems. Maintains and updates system documents for Configuration Management (CM). Understands the functions and performance criteria for assigned systems per the Safety Basis, and acts as the subject matter expert for assigned systems.
Performs technical activities that require interpretation and correlation of codes and standards, computer software, and unique processes and procedures tailored for the work being executed. Reviews discipline specific engineering calculations, drawings, and other engineering design documents.
Conducts or oversees the In-service-Inspection and Technical Surveillance Requirement execution of assigned systems.
Performs evaluations and design reviews for all proposed system modifications to determine if applicable design requirements, system performance expectations, and Safety Basis requirements have been met.
Performs field verification of construction and maintenance activities to ensure conformity to approved design. Supports field programs through assessment, interpretation of field conditions, and initiation of actions to correct problems.
Performs operability evaluations and generates replacement item equivalencies.
Develops technical solutions to complex problems, which require a high use of ingenuity and creativity. Devises imaginative, thorough, and practical solutions requiring evaluation of standards and processes. Solutions may be unique. Supports execution of assigned projects. Serves as an internal subject matter expert in their discipline. Is recognized by their colleagues as such.
Develops equipment or work specifications, evaluates bids and makes recommendation for awards of purchase contracts.
Mentors less experienced staff. Builds teaming relationships with other company organizations. Demonstrates advanced communication skills necessary to collaborate in a team environment.
