The Medical Screener will screen employees and visitors by taking temperatures using a no-touch thermometer and asking basic questions to identify symptoms or exposure which may prevent entering the facility. Screeners will be provided personal protective equipment to wear throughout shift and will be responsible for following social distancing guidelines and proper sanitizing and safety procedures.


  1. Greets patients in a polite, prompt and helpful manner. Provides direction, information and other assistance to patients as necessary.

  2. Use a temporal temperature scanner to take temperature of individuals.

  • Ask individuals a set of pre-defined questions to identify symptoms or exposure which may prohibit entry into the workplace or facility.

  • Document temperature and responses to screening questions.

  • Per supervisor direction, identify and refer individuals to alternate resource if not eligible to enter facility.

  1. Provides appropriate forms to patient for completion and signature. If necessary, provides exam preparation instructions and materials.

  2. May assist in reviewing scheduled patient appointments and may contact patients, via telephone, to confirm appointment date, time, and location. Advises the patient of any preparations required for the procedure, when necessary.

  3. Schedules patient exams based upon physician and facility availability. Orders labs as necessary.

  4. Answers phones in a pleasant manner and handles patient needs timely and appropriately.

  5. Maintains adequate level of office supplies and reorders as necessary. Ensures office equipment is operating properly and contacts appropriate party for equipment repair.

  6. Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly waiting area.

  7. At certain facilities, may perform back-up duties, as necessary and trained for.


This position calls for a highly organized individual as their role will require self-direction, flexibility, and a capacity to give and receive feedback graciously. The Medical Screener should possess the following professional qualifications and personal attributes:

  1. Must becomfortable working with the public (employees, patients or visitors,) during pandemic.
  • Must have the ability to operate and read results on a temporal scanner accurately.

  • Must be comfortable wearing Personal Protective Equipment throughout the shift.

  1. Must comply with all follow social distancing guidelines and proper sanitizing and safety procedures.

  2. Preferred knowledge of medical reception tasks, clinic procedures, medical terminology and paperwork processing requirements.

  3. Preferred knowledge of and experience in using office equipment including telephone, fax, computer and photocopier.

  4. Must have knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques.

  5. Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the telephone.

  6. Ability to use interpersonal skills to effectively interact with physicians, other facility staff, patients and families when providing instructions or responding to questions or exchanging patient-related information.

  7. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.

  8. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to file correctly by alphabetic or numeric system.

  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient record information.

  10. Strong customer service skills.


Position requires standing six to seven hours per day; eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity; ability to hear within normal range; ability to transfer patient files from one area to another. Position may be stressful at times due to workload and/or dealing with difficult patients.
