The Director of General Liability Claims is responsible for the self – administered general liability claim program for MGM Resorts International, and other of the Company's entities in locations in Nevada, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Ohio, New York and New Jersey. It is the primary responsibility of the Director General Liability Claims to develop and maintain policies and procedures for the handling of general liability and auto liability claims and for the litigation management of general liability and auto liability claims that go in to suit. This role reports direct to the Company's Vice President of Risk Management.


  • Directs and leads the General Liability Claims team of adjusters and administrative staff handling general and auto liability claims in Nevada, Maryland and New York as part of the Company's self-administered insurance program. The Director also provides oversight and direction on complex claims handled on site at MGM locations in other jurisdictions in the US.

  • Manage all aspects of litigated General and Auto liability claims. Assign to in-house legal or outside counsel to represent the Company. Directly oversee the litigation management by adjusters and collaborate with counsel on trial and/or settlement strategy of litigated General and Auto liability claims. Attend mediations, arbitrations and trials.

  • Implement standard operating procedures and best practices for handling of General and Auto Liability claims investigations, file handling, reserve setting, communication with the Company's insurers and resolution management and ensure compliance of the same by all adjusters.

  • Create and implement strategies, tactics, tools, and training programs to maximize overall success of the General Liability Claims team.

  • Identify, evaluate and provide recommendations to various internal stakeholders to decrease the frequency and severity of thirdparty injuries and losses. Develop, implement and monitor cost-containment strategies to prevent and minimize losses.

  • Monitor claims activity for all self-insured programs to ensure the timely reporting and management of claims to the Company's insurers in accordance with the reporting requirements of the applicable insurance policies.

  • Perform other job-related duties as requested.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Three (3)+ years of experience as a claims manager.

  • One (1)+ years of experience handling General Liability claims.


  • Ten (10)+ years of experience handling General Liability claims.

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and current member in good standing with the bar of at least one state.

  • Previous experience working in a similar resort setting.
