Acxiom LLC Systems Engineer (U.S. Remote) in Carson City, Nevada

A Systems Engineer deploys and maintains dedicated and shared compute and storage resources in support of mission-critical applications and data processing. The Engineer routinely devises and implements plans to improve performance, security, and availability of supporting operating systems and hardware resources through monitoring, scheduled maintenance, and problem resolution.

This role can be located anywhere in the US. We are not offering relocation assistance at this time.

What You Will Do:

  • Routinely identifies performance-related issues and implements solutions

  • Writes and provides consultation for scripts used for automation of batch and real-time production processes

  • Researches and recommends new technologies for use in support of production

  • Assists in design and implementation of IT infrastructure

  • Develops configuration for, documents, and deploys OS, middle-tier, and application software

  • Installs and provisions hardware including compute and storage resources

  • Assists in design of and participates in disaster recovery operation assessments

  • Designs and implements automation for provisioning, management, and monitoring of infrastructure

  • Review, recommend and implement security enhancements for IT resources

  • Identifies gaps in production processes and provides suggested remediation plans

  • Able to function in an on-call capacity during and after regular business hours

What You Will Have:


Minimum of 4 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master's degree; or equivalent work experience

  • Experience with virtualization, converged infrastructure, and container technologies

  • Familiarity with SAN zoning and provisioning

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with PowerShell, Bash, and Korn shell scripting

  • Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Chef, Terraform)

  • Installation, configuration, and administration of mission-critical applications operating on Windows/Linux/Unix servers in both on and off-premises environments

  • Knowledge of the functions and capabilities of IT hardware and software in multiple layers of the technology stack.

  • Understanding of Cloud Computing environments, services, capabilities, architectures, and integration methods

  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking firewalls, and industry best practices for securing server-to-server communications and client access to server resources

  • Strong ability to pay attention to detail

  • Ability to simultaneously manage and organize several projects and regular duties

  • Experience with traditional and non-traditional backup methodologies

  • Ability to work independently and be a “self-starter”

OS Platform Requirements (varies on OS platform of position):


1+ years hands-on administration of VMware environments


3+ years hands-on administration with CentOS, RHEL, and other Linux environments


1+ years hands-on administration of Solaris 11 environments


1+ years hands-on administration of AIX OS environments


1+ years hands-on administration of Windows environments (2012R2 and higher)


  • Experience with IBM Power and Storage hardware

  • Experience with VMWare, Nutanix, Docker, Kubernetes

  • Experience with zoning and provisioning IBM/Brocade SAN

  • Experience securing AIX, Linux, and Solaris

  • Detailed knowledge of secure coding practices

  • Advanced experience in Bash and Korn shell scripting

  • Advanced experience with Powershell scripting

  • Experience with Rubrik, NetBackup

OS Platform Preferred Requirements (varies on OS platform of position):


  1. VMware Certified Professional - VCP


  1. Red Hat Certified (RHCE, RHCA) System Administrator


  1. Oracle Solaris 11 System Administrator Certified Professional


  1. IBM Certified System Administrator - AIX 7


  1. Windows MCSE 2012 or higher
